Day of embroidery, an unofficial holiday in Ukraine is celebrated today.
An informal holiday dedicated to national clothes has began to be celebrated recently. The day of embroidery has been celebrated for more than ten years on the third Thursday of May. Ukrainians wear embroidered shirts and go on their or just take a walk. It is a sign of unity and respect for tradition.
The holiday was invented at Bukovina by students of the Chernivtsi University, and a year later the smart citizens took it to the streets in other cities and towns. So, in Kiev, the first parades of embroideries were held in Podol, near the Kiev-Mohyla Academy.
