The police of Kiev released Valery Lyudmirsky, who was held for 8 months in hostages by the kidnappers demanding a ransom of € 10 million.
As a result of a multi-month operational search service, the police in the Kyiv region conducted an operation and liberated V. Liudmirsky, who disappeared on July 18, 2016. Two intruders were detained, a secret bunker, where the hostage was located, arms and explosives were confiscated. An investigation is being carried out to search for and detain the organizer and the customer of the abduction.
The head of the power supply department of Ukrzaliznytsia V.Lyudmirsky was kidnapped while walking with a dog in the evening on July 18, 2016. The kidnappers shot the dog and, under intimidation, forced the victim to get into their car. Later the criminals got in touch with relatives and demanded a ransom of € 10 million.
On March 26, law-enforcers uncovered an underground secret bunker consisting of 2 cells in a private house in the village of Fastovets in the Kiev region, equipped with a ventilation system, lighting, water supply and sanitation, armored doors and constant video surveillance.
According to law enforcement agencies, this premise was specially prepared with the purpose of long retention of hostages. The Kalashnikov assault rifle, shops for it, pistols of foreign manufacture, an underbarrel grenade launcher with grenades and a kilogram of explosive TNT were seized in a nearby cell.
On suspicion of involvement in the crime, Dagestan was detained with Russian citizenship, as well as a citizen of Ukraine.
The criminal case, previously opened under Article 115 (Intentional Murder) was retrained for Articles 189 (Extortion) and 146 (Illegal imprisonment or abduction) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
According to the investigation, the initiator and members of his group have legitimately arrived in Ukraine in 2015 and have been on the territory of the state illegally for more than two years. In the process of implementing the illegal plan, members of the group recruited a native of Ukraine, forced him to convert to Islam, and with his participation bought a private house in the village of Fastovets in the Kiev region. Then in the basement of the house they equipped a secret bunker with two chambers for the long detention of hostages.
The National Police checks the involvement of the identified participants in the abduction of Valery Lyubarsky to the well-known international criminal groups and asked the SBU to check whether criminals have any relation to Islamic terrorist groups.
