An influential non-governmental organization, Reporters Without Borders, defined an “index of freedom” for journalists. This time Ukraine went five places in the ranking, improving its position to 102 places and having left 78 countries behind.
Compared with 2014, we have clarified the picture with the owners of the media, public information has become more accessible. Negative impact on the rating of the murder of Pavel Sheremet, the publication on the website of “Peacemaker” personal data of journalists, the arson of the office of the “Inter” channel in Kiev.
Unfortunately, there is no critical journalism on the territory of the organization.
Leading in the ranking are Norway, Sweden and Finland – access to public information has improved.
“Reporters” noted some restrictions on press freedom in the US (two positions down), Poland (lost seven positions). The situation in the UK, the Netherlands and Canada has deteriorated somewhat. Russia stayed on the 148th place.
