How is Kiev preparing for Eurovision?

On May 7 in Kiev, the Eurovision Song Contest is  starting, our country has got as aa award for winning the 2016 competition. Prohorovne checked to see if the Ukrainian capital is ready for such a large-scale event.

Digging

In the area of the metro station Levoberezhnaya, everything is dug up – roads, sidewalks, flower beds. Repair started less than a month before the contest and, as usual, everything started immediately. Naturally, this leads to traffic jams and inconvenience to residents of the entire Left Bank. The grandmothers course  the city authorities at the bus stops. At the metro station Levoberezhnaya there is only one exit. Nevertheless, they promise to finish everything till Eurovision and (most likely) will succeed.

Roads

The song contest brought inconvenience to the drivers of the already overburdened transport of the capital. Khreshchatyk is already closed. May 6 and 7 the streets will also be blocked: Institutskaya, Sadovaya, Lipskaya and Silkovichnaya. The routes of public transport will also be changed. This, most likely, will lead to huge traffic jams and traffic congestion at peak times.

Police

Kyiv police makes every effort to prevent all incidents during the large-scale song contest. To test the readiness of the metropolitan police, its units will conduct exercises at the metro station “Ploshcha Lva Tolstogo”, on the night of April 28.

Law enforcers will work out the order of cooperation when detaining armed criminals and releasing hostages. Participating in the exercise are also members of the CORD, the explosion and cynological services and police of the Kiev Metro.

SBU

Earlier, the Antiterrorist Center at the Main Directorate of the Security Service in Kiev and the Kiev region had already conducted special anti-terrorist exercises on the basis of the International Exhibition Center, where the contest will be held. According to the “scenario”, armed “terrorists” blew up a car, took hostages, barricaded themselves in the room and reported their demands.

However, so far law enforcement agencies have no information about possible provocations. And, despite the multiple problems, it will be a contest, which Ukraine and Kiev will be proud of even after many years.
